Students will identify the qualities and skills of effective Christian leaders

Ethics/Social Justice

Ethics explores the elements applicable to moral decision making using the
Ten Commandments and Catechism of the Catholic Church as the framework Students
will study the implications of the values and principles of the Commandments and
their relevance in contemporary society. Social Justice investigates justice and
peace issues that affect the individual, family, community and the world in the
context of Gospel values and Catholic Social Teaching principles. This course is
taken by juniors.

Fundamentals of Catholic Christianity

This course is designed to give students a basic understanding of the Roman
Catholic Church, its development of Doctrine, Dogma, Worship, and Morality. This

Hebrew and Christian Scriptures

This course is designed to introduce students to the historical and
theological development of Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and further the
students’ knowledge of the Christian Scriptures (New Testament) in light of the
Roman Catholic tradition. This course is taken by sophomores.

History of Christian Spirituality

This course will explore the history of foundations of Catholic Christian
spirituality with an emphasis on the role of spirituality and its place in
contemporary life, including the study of various traditions that have evolved
such as Benedictine, Franciscan, Jesuit and others. This course offers a
detailed look from a Catholic Christian perspective, including her particular
contributions to theology, spirituality, and liturgy. Emphasis will be placed on
the apostolic tradition as well as personal theology and spirituality.

Philosophy

This course is a general introduction to the basic methods, topics, people,
and texts of philosophy. This course aims to give students the ability to think
critically and address such questions as, “Does God exist? What is the nature of
free will? Can we ever really know anything? What is the purpose and
meaning of life, and what is the true meaning of happiness?” Emphasis will be
placed on class discussion and the Socratic method.

This course is designed to study the historical and theological developments
of several world religions. Students will explore reasons for studying
comparative religion. It will offer insight into different cultures and people’s
quest for understanding the mysteries of life and for the sacred, providing an
opportunity to reflect upon the truths revealed in their beliefs and practices.
